Resolved Question: Places to stop in West Texas.?

A friend and I are going from Austin to Balmorhea (Town 2.5 hours south of Midland/Odessa) to work for the summer. Although the drive is 7 hours long, we will still have a lot of time to kill. We don't care how we get there (usually take 290 to I-10 or ) as long as it's not too far out of the way.
